National Volunteer Week
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers past and present!
Volunteers have always been valued and important team members at Discovery Bay and National Volunteer Week provides a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge and recognise the variety of valuable skills they bring. Every week an enthusiastic team of volunteers descend upon the Historic Whaling Station, Australian Wildlife and Botanic Garden to weed, prune, paint or help out any way they can. Without these volunteer’s wonderful contributions the constant upkeep of the heritage listed Whaling Station and native Botanic Garden would not be possible.
One volunteer, John Erwin, has been volunteering for an amazing 15 years as part of a dedicated volunteer team who oversee the daily maintenance and visitor safety aboard the Cheynes IV Whalechaser, Australia’s only accessible Whalechaser. John, who has devoted a couple of his days every week the Historic Whaling Station, says the best part about volunteering is “the interaction with visitors” and “speaking with them and finding out where they have come from.”
Discovery Bay, would like to thank each and every volunteer and the various community organisations, including Albany and Regional Volunteer Service, for their commitment and support over the past 35 years.
